How to set up a branded QR code campaign
To set up a branded QR code campaign, create a dynamic QR code with branded artwork, a readable link path, and a branded custom domain when available. Then test the full scan experience before launch.
Define the branded scan experience
A branded QR campaign is more than a logo in the middle of the code. It includes the artwork, scan link, and destination page. It can also include scan page branding before visitors continue.
Plan these pieces before creating the QR code:
- Campaign destination - The page or action scanners should open.
- QR code design - Brand colors, logo, frame, and call-to-action text.
- Custom domain - A branded redirect domain such as
go.yourbrand.comorqr.yourbrand.com. - Dynamic link path - A readable path such as
spring-menu,vip-signup, orevent-map. - Scan page branding - Whether the QRSurge badge should appear before redirecting.
- Analytics plan - How you will compare scans and downstream results.
Create the branded dynamic QR code
Use a dynamic QR code for branded campaigns. Dynamic QR codes support editable destinations, scan analytics, and branded links. They can also use campaign controls.
- Open the QR creator in QRSurge.
- In QR Code Type, choose the dynamic QR type that matches the campaign destination.
- In Destination, enter the campaign URL or destination details.
- Select a connected Custom domain if the campaign should use a branded redirect domain.
- Add a readable value in Custom dynamic link when the campaign needs a recognizable path.
- In Design, customize the QR code artwork.
- Review branding settings when branding removal is available.
- Download the QR code and test the full scan path.
Use a branded custom domain
Custom domains replace the default QRSurge short domain with your own redirect domain. This can make public campaigns feel more recognizable and trustworthy, especially when the scan link is visible in a phone preview.
Use a dedicated subdomain such as go.yourbrand.com, qr.yourbrand.com, or scan.yourbrand.com. After the domain is connected, select it when creating the dynamic QR code or custom dynamic link.
Choose a readable dynamic link path
A readable path makes the scan link easier to recognize when another app previews the URL. Use a path that describes the campaign or placement.
Good branded paths are short, specific, and easy to read:

Custom dynamic links are unique per domain. If a path is already taken on the default QRSurge domain, choose a different path or use the path on a connected custom domain.
Customize the QR artwork
Open Design to customize the visual QR code. Adjust the colors, styles, and optional logo while keeping the QR code easy to scan.
Keep the foreground darker than the background. Avoid busy backgrounds and keep logos modest. If the QR code will be printed, download SVG when the artwork may be resized or sent to a designer.
Use frame text or nearby copy to explain the action, such as "Scan for menu", "Scan to RSVP", or "Scan to download the app."
Remove QRSurge branding from scan pages
Branding removal controls whether the "Made with QRSurge" badge appears on dynamic scan pages before visitors continue to the destination.
When branding removal is available for the organization, review the setting in Organization settings or in the Branding section when creating a dynamic QR code. For the most branded experience, combine branding removal with a custom domain, readable path, and matching destination page.
Test the full branded journey
Test the QR code from the final artwork, not only the QRSurge preview. The full journey should feel consistent from the printed or digital placement through the destination page.
Check these details before launch:
- The QR code scans at the final size and placement.
- The visible scan link uses the intended domain and path.
- The destination opens on mobile and matches the campaign promise.
- The QR artwork has enough contrast and clear surrounding space.
- QRSurge branding appears or is removed as expected for the organization.
- Analytics appear for test scans when using a dynamic QR code.
Track the branded campaign
Open Analytics after launch to review scan totals, timing, and audience trends. Use separate QR codes for major placements when you need to compare their performance.
QRSurge analytics show scan activity. Compare them with your other reporting tools when you need to measure downstream conversions.
