Custom domains

Custom domains let dynamic QR codes and short links use your own branded domain instead of the default QRSurge short domain. They help visitors recognize the link and keep campaigns aligned with your brand.

Use a branded domain for dynamic QR scans

A custom domain becomes the redirect domain for dynamic QR codes and short links. Once connected, QRSurge can serve scans and clicks through that domain with SSL.

Use a subdomain such as go.yourbrand.com, qr.yourbrand.com, or www.yourbrand.com.

Choose a domain or subdomain that is dedicated to QRSurge redirects. If your main website already lives at yourbrand.com or www.yourbrand.com, use a separate subdomain like go.yourbrand.com instead of pointing the live website domain to QRSurge.

Connect a dedicated subdomain

Open Custom domains in the dashboard and add the subdomain you want to connect. Enter only the hostname, such as go.yourbrand.com.

Leave out:

  • http:// or https://
  • Paths
  • Query strings
  • Fragments

Add the CNAME record with your DNS provider

For subdomains, add a CNAME record with these values:

  • Record type - CNAME
  • Name / Host - the subdomain, such as go
  • Value / Target - domains.qrsurge.com
  • TTL - Auto or 3600
  • Proxy status - DNS only

Some DNS providers expect the full hostname in the Name / Host field, such as go.yourbrand.com, instead of only the subdomain label.

Domain status

After adding the DNS record, refresh the status from domain settings. DNS changes can work in a few minutes and may take 24-48 hours to fully update.

The status can be:

  • Verifying
  • Connected
  • Unreachable
  • Disconnected

If the domain does not connect, follow Custom domain is not working to check the DNS and SSL setup.

Use the domain in dynamic QR codes

After the domain is connected, select it when creating a dynamic QR code or custom dynamic link. The domain controls the first part of the scan link, and the custom dynamic path controls the back half.
