App QR code opens the wrong store
If an app QR code opens the wrong store, test it on real iOS and Android devices first. Then check the store links, default destination, and any smart rules used for device routing.
Test on real devices
Device routing should be tested on actual iOS and Android devices whenever possible. Desktop browsers, preview tools, and some in-app browsers may not behave like a phone camera scan.
Test:
- iPhone camera scan.
- Android camera scan.
- Desktop scan or link open.
- Any QR code printed in final artwork.
Check the store links
Confirm that the App Store and Google Play URLs are correct and public. Scanners may land in the wrong place if one link points to the wrong app, a draft listing, or an unavailable page.
Open each store link directly before testing the QR code again.
Check the default destination
The default destination is what visitors see when no smart rule matches. Use a desktop-friendly app landing page as the fallback when possible.
That page can include both App Store and Google Play buttons, support messaging, or instructions for unsupported devices.
Review device smart rules
If you use smart rules to route app downloads, open Smart Rules and review the device rules.
Common setup:
- Device OS is iOS, then redirect to the App Store.
- Device OS is Android, then redirect to Google Play.
- Default QR destination, then redirect to a general app landing page.
Create the specific device rules before broader rules. Also check whether the rule uses And or Or logic if multiple conditions are involved.
