Scan analytics are missing or lower than expected

This article applies to dynamic QR codes that show Analytics in QRSurge. Static QR codes do not show total scans or an analytics link because they do not pass through a QRSurge redirect.

Start with the analytics date range

Open Analytics and review the selected date range. Scan data may appear missing if the chart is filtered to a day, week, campaign window, or date range before scans happened.

If you are reviewing an individual QR code, make sure you are viewing analytics for the correct QR code and not a similarly named campaign.

Static QR codes do not have scan analytics

QRSurge scan analytics track dynamic QR codes because each scan passes through a QRSurge redirect before the visitor reaches the destination.

Static QR codes encode the final content directly into the QR pattern. They can be useful, but they do not send scan events to QRSurge.

Scans are not the same as website visits

A QRSurge scan is counted when the dynamic redirect is requested. It is not the same as a website session or downstream conversion.

Analytics can differ because:

  • A visitor scans but leaves before the destination fully loads.
  • A visitor opens the destination later from browser history.
  • The destination is shared after the scan.
  • Website analytics filters or groups traffic differently.
  • Privacy tools, network behavior, or browser settings affect downstream tracking.

Use QRSurge analytics for scan activity and compare it with downstream tools for conversion behavior.

Check plan and chart availability

Some analytics views and retention windows are plan-based. If older data or advanced charts are not visible, check pricing for current plan details.

The basic question to answer first is whether the QR code has scan events in the selected range. Then review which charts are available for the organization.

Test with a fresh scan

Scan the same dynamic QR code from a phone and wait for the destination to load. Then refresh Analytics and check whether the scan appears in the expected date range.

If the fresh scan appears, the QR code is tracking. If it does not, make sure you are viewing the correct QR code, organization, and date range.
